Long before Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling became known worldwide for his books, his consulting work, and his peaceful and unique approach to horses, he was an artist.

Not a retreat from the modern world – but:

Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling studied engineering and communication science. However – separated from his parents as a boy and growing up under difficult conditions, he learned early that survival depended on more than physical strength.

It depended on perception, creativity, imagination, and the ability to understand deeper realities of life. Klaus has expressed this since his youth, first and foremost in his art.

And alongside these experiences came a lifelong fascination with the great transmissions of humanity.
Klaus studied anthropology, communication, culture, mythology, human behavior and the relationship between nature and consciousness.

He completed his studies at an unusually young age and became one of the youngest university teachers in his field at the University of Art and Design in Dortmund.

The attempt to perceive, understand, and creatively shape life in all its depth.

His art is one of those foundations.

Not art as pure decoration. Not art as pure entertainment. But art as a way of perceiving life itself.
From an early age, Klaus was confronted with circumstances that forced him to ask fundamental questions about existence. Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling grew up alone in forests — and learned there what no school teaches:
to perceive the world as a whole, before the mind begins to divide it.

This is the ancient knowledge he has studied his entire life –
in the transmissions of indigenous cultures, in the philosophy of the pre-Socratics, in the Taoist principles of action that arises from stillness.

Not a retreat from the modern world.

He studied engineering and communication science. He leads an international organisation. Separated from his parents as a boy and growing up under difficult conditions, he learned early that survival depended on more than physical strength.

All are expressions of the same underlying search:
How can a human being live fully, naturally and consciously within the reality of life?
This is why Klaus’s work has always been difficult to place into conventional categories.

Because an artist in the best and deepest sense doesn’t just see things. He sees relationships. Tension and balance. Movement and stillness. Rhythm, space, and the perfect moment.

What becomes visible in a painting as line, color, and composition appears in the encounter with a horse as presence, trust, and movement. In consulting, this same attentiveness becomes the ability to perceive hidden connections and create new paths.

Klaus never stopped being an artist.

He put his art as main activity aside as long as life demanded something else. What is emerging now is not the rediscovery of a forgotten skill. It is the fully ripened fruit of a life that has always drawn from the same source.

The term Mythopoetic Expressionism was coined for his works—not to confine them to a category, but because no existing term fully captures them. It is the first and so far only example of this designation:
His art is unlike anything else.

His way with horses is unlike anything else. His coaching, his writing, his way of living is unlike anything else. Because all emerge from the same individual source.

The paintings open a particularly direct window into this world.

Their titles refer to universal human experiences, ancient themes and contemporary questions.

Their forms arise from a process that combines intuition, observation, experience and deep reflection.
